Update 4

Hello from Salzburg. We are in our hotel, the Hohenstaufen Hotel (or something like that). We took the train from Vienna to Salzburg on Friday, checked into our little hotel (a different one with a fantastic Balkan restaurant) and walked around the Old Town portion of Salzburg. A very walkable town with quaint streets, grand courtyards and spectacular views all around. It is in a river valley surrounded by mountains. Awesome place. We had dinner in the Balkan restaurant and it was a highlight meal so far. Particularly our desert: Salzburger Nockerl (google it and hope I spelled it correctly).
Saturday we toured the Salzburg fortress. It is a fantastic middle age and newer fortress overlooking the city. You will all have to wait to see some of our pictures because I forgot the cell phone today. After the fortress we walked the top of the mountain to a great little cafe for a lunch overlooking town (with nothing else nearby). We then walked around down town and found our new hotel for the night. After another lovely dinner and a stroll through the Mirabell gardens it was time to head back to the hotel. Now it is time for a blog entry.

I think our picture count is at 1300. I may need a new harddrive just for the photos when I get home. "Catch ya'll later" as they say in Salzburg (if they are American tourists from Texas anyway).

Update 3

Oh yeah: I think Sara and I have taken 800 pictures so far so we will be able to bore you all silly when we return.

Update 2

Today is Friday, and I got a little computer time again. Here is a quick update before class:
Wednesday my group worked on our project until a little after 5:00. I then hopped the underground to meet Sara and Bev, who were at Schonnbrunn Palace. It was closed by the time I got there, but the gardens were really cool. Sara and Bev said the palace was great also.

After wandering a bit, we met up with Borjana (see previous post). We had a great time. We went back to the hotel very late.

Thursday we got up, breakfasted and hopped a train to Melk, a town around 85km west of Vienna. It is a quant little town with a fantastic Benedictine Abby, which we toured. Very cool stuff. After the Abby tour we jumped on a boat down the Danube to the town of Krems. It took around 1.5 hours and was one of the prettiest boat rides I have ever been on. The banks were wooded mountains dotted with little villages, churches, old castles (a few looked as though they had been burninated) and other medieval and rennaisance architecture. Definitely the highlight of the day. We would definitely come back. After a nice dinner it was back to our seperate hotels and sleep.

Today I have more class, and once our group is comfortable with our project status I am hopping a train to Salzburg with Sara and Bev for the weekend. My group is actually going to Prague, so we will definitely finish before 3:00. Sara and Bev are going to meet Malena´s brother today, so that will be fun for them. Until next time, I hope you all are enjoying the updates....

A new friend

Okay, so this post actually should be before the previous one, but for some reason it didn´t send properly so I resent it. This is Sara, Bev and Borjana, Malena´s (Sara´s coworker, excuse mz spelling if it is wrong) niece. She lives in Vienna and we met her for coffee on Thursday night and had a fantastic time.

A church

So here we are at the abby in Melk

Finallz at a computer

So I finally got to a computer lab. So I can take some time to write a little more (although typing is a bit tricky on this german keyboard as a few keys are in different spots). So far our trip has been great. We arrived without any hassles and went on a walking tour from our guidebook the first day. We also ended up catching an organ concert in a church and the performer explained to us about the organ afterwords. Much fun. Then a goods nights sleep.

The museum on Sunday was great as well, and we took pics with the big cameras rather than the phone. The impatient ones will have to view these when we get home. Last night I went to a Mozart concert with my class, and Sara and Bev toured the treasury. I did manage to catch up to them for some coffee in the afternoon. We both had ended up hiking the stairs of St. Stephens cathedral. It is a cool cathedral. Perhaps I will post a picture of that someday.

The people in my class our fun, and our group had a good productive afternoon getting started on our recommendations today. Today Sara and Bev are touring the Imperial Apartments, and then we are meeting at 5:00. My class is going for dinner at a Heuriger Wine-garden tonight, and Sara and Bev are coming too. Time to go. Will try to post more later....J

Almost time to leave

As you can see from the below picture Bev has arrived in Eagan. We are soon ready to leave on our trip. Sara and her mom are at Target right now getting the remaining last-minute supplies. Here is our itinerary, for those who are interested:

John
We leave at 7:00PM tomorrow night (May 19th) on NWA #46 to Amsterdam. We arrive in Vienna on KLM #1845 at 12:30PM local time on the 20th.
The first night we all will be staying together. On Sunday night I (John) move to the Hotel Kaiser Franz Josef with the rest of my class, where he will stay until Tuesday Morning May 30 (not counting the weekend we will take in Salzburg). Then I fly with my class to Warsaw, Poland where we stay at the Marriot City Center (or something like that, its a Marriot). On June 2nd we make our final presentation to 3M. Saturday June 3rd I fly from Warsaw to Prague to meet up with Sara and Bev.

Sara and Bev
Same flight to Vienna. Staying at Pension Dr. Geissler until Friday the 26th. Then we all go to Salzburg where we are staying in two hotels. From Salzburg Sara and Bev will be taking a night train to Florence, Italy. They will be staying at the Hotel Basilea for two days. Then they go on to Venice, where they will be staying in a 5 room hotel, the Casa Cosmo. On Friday, June 2nd they fly from Venice to Prague, where we are staying at the Pension Accord. I will be meeting up with them on Saturday, June 3rd.

We all fly home together from Prague on June 6th. We leave at 12:45PM on KLM #3124 (Czech Air #OK622) transferring in Amsterdam and flying home on NWA #55.

What an adventure this will be! I will post pics from my camera phone periodically during the trip. Pray for safety and fun.
